#FacesofNeeSoon – National Day Edition

Nee Soon Town is where Hossan Mohammad Saddam works, lives and plays.

A resident of Nee Soon, Hossan has been working with Nee Soon Town Council since he was 19 years old, this year is his 10th year with the Town Council.

Young, energetic and friendly, Hossan helps keep the Nee Soon Link division clean and neat for residents.

Hossan decided to pursue a job in Singapore after completing school in India. He wanted to provide a better future for himself and his family so he made plans and signed up with an agency to work under a conservancy company in Singapore.

Like many other migrant workers, he had to part with his family and friends back in India. He misses his family back in India and feels sad that he is not able to celebrate milestones (such as birthdays and festive seasons) with them. However, he remains optimistic and is thankful that everything has been smooth-sailing for him.

Hossan was recognised for his bravery at Our Nee Soon Hero Recognition Award Ceremony held on 20 February 2021. Along with two fellow Town Council cleaners, he helped save two residents from a house fire in Nee Soon Link. The flat was engulfed in flames and filled with thick black smoke by the time they arrived. Yet, the trio did not back down.

“I did not think about whether I would be injured in the process. The only thing on my mind was that I should try to save their lives,” said Hossan.

On his off days, he enjoys sightseeing around Singapore with his friends. Some of his favourite places are Sentosa and Marina Bay Sands, where he gets to enjoy the view. He often video calls his family and friends in India and sends them pictures of himself at these places to share his precious memories with them.

Say Hi to Hossan when you see him around in the neighbourhood and help him out by keeping the vicinity litter-free!
